New site for information and support to António debuts in portuguese.
On the 13th of December, the new page of information and support for António was put online, still in a testing phase, and on the 15th of Januray started the English version.
As we receive the translations sent by friends and comrades, other pages in spanish, english, italian, greek, french and dutch will be available.
The data available in the old page is kept available, and it was updated with some of the data from the last years. Along the few next months we will not only be updating the site with news but we'll also be expanding the archives. Stay alert, get the word out about the site, and communicate through the e-mail for any suggestion or doubt.
Solidarity is more than just a word.
Last text written by António─ incident occurred in the visit in Pinheiro da Cruz.
On the 10th October 2007, during a normal visit to António in Pinheiro da Cruz, this article was given in hand to one of the persons who visit him. Contrarily to what until then had been the common practice, the prison guards opposed the passing on of sheets of paper with the text, having António firmly protested this attempt of disrespect to a right of his, the one of freely expressing himself.
Powerless in the face of António's argumentation [the guards], the member of the collective is stopped from exiting the building with such sheets and is taken to the prison director, to clear up the situation. With no intention of making any dialogue he immediately declares that António would suffer a disciplinary punishment and that the person visiting him would be forbidden of doing so, for indefinite time.
But they couldn't get hold of the text!
Meanwhile, after contact between the prison director and António and also after written contact by his lawyer, these two punishing measures were rendered uneffective. Because there was clearly no juridic base for their application.
It was well shown, however, how upsetting the texts written by António are to the prison services...
